Edmonton offense explodes for three first-period goals

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers continued their strong start to the playoffs on Monday night, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 7-4 in Game 2 of their first-round series.

Connor McDavid picks up five assists

The Oilers took an early lead in the game, scoring three goals in the first period. Leon Draisaitl scored two of those goals, and Zach Hyman added the other.

McDavid, who had three assists in the first period, picked up two more in the second period to give him five for the game.

Oilers outshoot Kings 41-22

The Oilers outshot the Kings 41-22 and controlled the game for most of the night.

The Kings managed to close the gap in the third period, scoring three goals to cut the Oilers' lead to 5-4. However, Hyman and Draisaitl each scored empty-net goals to seal the victory for Edmonton.

The Oilers now hold a 2-0 lead in the series and will host the Kings in Game 3 on Wednesday night at Rogers Place.
