Inter Miami Extends Win Streak, Messi Suffers Knock
Higuain, Taylor, and Pozuelo Lead Charge to Victory
Toronto FC No Match for Resurgent Inter Miami
Fort Lauderdale, FL – In a match that saw Lionel Messi forced to leave the field due to a knock, Inter Miami CF managed to secure a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Toronto FC at DRV PNK Stadium on Sunday. The win marks Inter Miami's fourth consecutive victory and extends their unbeaten streak to five matches.
With Messi sidelined, it was Gonzalo Higuain, Robbie Taylor, and Alejandro Pozuelo who stepped up to lead the scoring for Inter Miami. Higuain opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a well-taken header from a cross by Taylor. Taylor doubled the lead just five minutes later, finishing off a swift counterattack with a clinical strike.
Pozuelo added to the lead in the 35th minute with a stunning free kick from 25 yards out. The goal was the Spaniard's first for Inter Miami since his arrival from Toronto FC last month.
The second half was a more subdued affair, with Inter Miami comfortably controlling the game and creating several chances to add to their lead. However, it was Toronto FC who came closest to scoring, with Ayo Akinola's shot cannoning off the crossbar in the 75th minute.
The win moves Inter Miami into 8th place in the Eastern Conference, just four points behind the playoff places. They will next face the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on Saturday.
