Sinner Madrid 2022

Jannik Sinner Withdraws from Madrid Open Due to Hip Injury

Italian Star Misses Out on Title Defense

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open due to a hip injury, the tournament announced on Tuesday. The Italian was the defending champion in Madrid, having won the title last year by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

Tough Call for Sinner

Sinner, who is currently ranked 11th in the world, has been struggling with a hip injury for the past few weeks. He aggravated the injury during his recent match against Tommy Paul in Rome, which he lost in three sets. Sinner said that he is "very disappointed" to have to withdraw from Madrid, but he is confident that he will be able to return to action soon.

"I'm really sorry to have to withdraw from Madrid," Sinner said. "I love playing in this tournament and I was really looking forward to defending my title. But I've been struggling with this hip injury for a few weeks now and it's just not healed enough to compete at the level I need to. I'm going to take some time off now to recover and I hope to be back on court soon."
